Our adventures with Peggy

Every trip in Peggy, our trusty Roller Team Pegasus motorhome, seems to bring a new adventure. Some involve beautiful scenery, some involve unexpected discoveries, and occasionally they involve an unplanned visit to A&E. Our latest trip to the East Yorkshire coast managed to include all three.

There are some places that always feel like home, no matter how many years have passed. For me, Cardiff is one of those places. It was my university town, my first home away from home, and the place where I survived a degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. So when Arnie and I pointed Peggy, our trusty Roller Team Pegasus motorhome, towards South Wales, I knew we were in for a trip full of memories.

There are many elegant ways to enter France. Ours involved leaving Spalding, driving through the night to Dover and boarding the 12:20 a.m. Irish Ferries crossing to Calais in our trusty motorhome, Peggy.

They say history is everywhere in England, and this weekend Peggy proved that once again. Our faithful motorhome was pointed towards Hertfordshire for a few days of Roman ruins, market towns, electric motorbike adventures and, as always, plenty of laughs along the way.

What happens when you mix a classic motorhome, a stealthy electric bike, a runaway pigeon, and a battery that gives up the ghost right at the finish line? You get our latest epic road trip through North Yorkshire!

After our lovely stay in Beeston, Peggy carried us on to our next overnight stop – the Bridge area in Nottingham. As always, half the fun of motorhome travel is finding new places to park up and explore.

Our first stop was Seaham, a charming coastal town with a beach famous for its colourful sea glass. Once discarded by Victorian glass factories, these little gems have been tumbled smooth by the waves over decades. We spent hours combing the sand, pockets slowly filling with green, blue, and even rare red pieces — each one a tiny, polished piece of history.

There’s something magical about packing up our trusty motorhome Peggy, turning the key, and letting the road decide the pace. This time, our wheels rolled us through a string of gems in Derbyshire and beyond — from medieval castles to windswept moors, from stargazing monuments to the quirkiest pub you could imagine.

Our latest overnight stop in Peggy took us to the beautiful cathedral city of Ely, where a sunny Saturday rolled effortlessly into a relaxed Sunday by the river. It was one of those simple, unhurried trips where the place itself does most of the work—sunshine, water, history and just enough going on to keep you wandering a little longer than planned.

Some trips feel like a gentle wander through history. Others feel like stepping into a forgotten world of moss-covered rock corridors, misty lakes and landscapes that seem to belong more to legend than modern life. Our journey in Peggy to the Staffordshire Moorlands was very much the latter.

There are some trips where every stop seems carefully planned and everything falls neatly into place. Then there are the adventures in Peggy, where the unexpected becomes the highlight of the day and where getting slightly lost is all part of the fun.

Our latest adventure in Peggy took us to the beautiful Suffolk coast, where we discovered medieval castles, colourful beach huts, fresh seafood, quirky art and one very memorable soaking courtesy of the North Sea!

Every trip in Peggy seems to combine history, unexpected discoveries and a healthy dose of nostalgia, but our journey to Cambridge had something extra special about it.

Some journeys in Peggy feel like a gentle cruise through countryside. Others feel like a raw, windswept tour of England’s coastline where history, weather and a bit of chaos all arrive at once. Our trip along the Kent coast had a bit of everything—Roman ruins, seaside towns, freezing rides on the LiveWire, and even a snowy night with a fox for company.

Our latest adventure in Peggy took us north into Yorkshire, combining one of England's most historic cities with dramatic coastal scenery, fascinating local history and a few hidden gems along the way.

Our latest adventure in Peggy  took us deep into the heart of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, with grand spa towns, riverside rides, mysterious church music and some wonderfully quirky discoveries along the way.

Some places capture your imagination long before you ever visit them. For years, Dungeness had been one of those places for me. There was something about its isolated landscape, quirky buildings, artistic connections and windswept reputation that made it feel completely different from anywhere else in Britain. This trip was finally our chance to see it for ourselves.

Some trips leave you with a long list of famous attractions you've visited. Others leave you with memorable moments, unexpected discoveries and stories you'll still be laughing about years later. Our adventure through Chester, Wrexham and Ledbury managed to provide all three.

Some adventures are carefully planned. Others seem to create their own stories as you go along. This trip through the Welsh borders and into Wales itself certainly fell into the second category, combining beautiful scenery, engineering marvels, unexpected kindness and one very real possibility that we might return home with an extra four-legged passenger.

Some trips in Peggy are all about big distances and dramatic landscapes. Others are about smaller journeys packed with unforgettable moments—coastal rides, freezing swims, wildlife encounters, and the simple pleasure of finding a good place to park up by the sea. Our loop around Flamborough, Filey, Hornsea, Hunmanby and the Humber Bridge had all of that and more.
